If you notice a drop in production

Yes they will keep returning. as long as you let them.. I have already had a 4ft black snake in the nest. eating eggs. but it ate my fake egg. so that may not bear too well. At least it was in the nest without a hen on it so I could see it instead of sticking my hand under the hen to get eggs just to have a snake head in my hand that spit an egg back out. I was not expecting that. that happen some years ago and I still check to make sure nothing is under the hen before reaching..

LOL. My biggest fear. Ugh. Whenever I need to reach eggs in areas I can’t fully see I am very careful. If I grabbed a snake that would be the end of me. I’ve pitchforked possums and shot raccoons, but a snake would do me in.

I always make sure there are only eggs in the nest before my hand goes in.

I read you’re article hoping it would mention several causes of egg dropping. The title is too promising because it only addresses a black snake problem.

There are many more reasons why egg production can drop: molting, shorter days, less fresh or cheap feed, too much treats or fattening food, parasites like lice or mite, rats and other egg stealers, getting older, …

So imho you should alter the title or even better do some research and make a more complete article to get some well earned *****.
