Initially, we started with 5 rehomed hens in August of 2021.

Their initial setup:

It was fine, but not ideal. The girls free-ranged so they really only came back to sleep. Coop was built by my husband and is 4x4x6 (I believe).

May 2022
We buy some 4 chicks and 4 Guinea hens for tick control (guineas were ultimately rehomed to another farm as they were hurting the 4 lavender orps). We knew a bigger run was needed.

First step was building parts for the run.

Each panel was assembled inside then moved outside. Happy to get specific details if requested!

2x4 go down another 2-3 levels.

And after some serious muscle, we moved the coop over to the right of the run and wall-ah!

Roof was initially covered with avian netting, then covered with hardware cloth as seen below.

Coop was moved and a 8x16 run was built! Each piece is lined with 1/2 hardware cloth and the boards go down about 5 feet in the back. Each panel was individually made and had the hardware cloth installed before the walls went up. I think this saved him quite the headache. Giving it almost a modular approach.

We have since added steel rods to keep diggers out, motion lights, Ring Camera, and an electric fence. Scram predators!

The Chunnel

Finally we got the roof up and now our little flock of 13 are a bunch of happy campers.

Once again, roof is lined with HC and the front covered with 2x4s to keep the red barn theme going strong!
