OUR CHICKEN PAGE IN NORTH CAROLINA

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE CREATIVELY DISCUSSING THE IDEA OF GETTING CHICKENS THAY WERE ALREADY EGG LAYING. I DID NOT WANT TO RAISE THEM FROM CHICKS, CAUSE I HADNEVER ATTEMPTED THIS TYPE OF THING BEFORE.

SO WE WAITED TILL WE HAD A LITTLE MONEY, AND WELL DECIDED TO START BUILDING. WE HAVE A SHED OUT BACK ON OUR PROPERTY THAT HAD A LEAN-TO ATTACHED TO IT. AND WE TOOK EVERYTHING OUT OF THERE, MADE THE SUPPORTS, MADE THE DOOR, GOT A PLASTIC CHICKEN "WIRE" AND STAPELED IT EVERYWHERE, AND I MADE THE CHICKEN BOXES FROM A IDEA INSIDE MY HEAD. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY THIS TURNED OUT. WE MADE THE RAMP TO GET TO THE NESTING BOXES OUT OF CHIPBOARD, AND READING EVERYWHERE HOW YOU NEED TO P0ROTECT THE CHICKENS FEET, WE CARPETED IT WITH INDOOR OUTDOOR CARPET, SO THEY WOULD HAVE AN EASIER GO OF IT.

NO KNOWING ANY BETTER, THEY SEEMED TO REALLY ENJOY GOING UNDER THE RAMP AND BEFORE I KNEW IT THEY WERE LAYING THEIR EGGS UNDER THERE, WELL HAD TO CLOSE UP THE SIDES OF THE RAMP SO THEY WOULD NOT DO THAT ANY MORE, AND THEY HAVE RESUMED LAYING THE EGGS IN THE NESTING BOXES, ALTHOUGH, I DID FIND ONE ON THE GROUND THIS MORNING.

I READ THIS MORNING THAT I SHOULD HAVE MADE PERCHES FOR THEM, WE WILL BE MAKING SOME THIS WEEKEND FOR THEM.... I AM LEARNING ALL THIS AS I GO. BUT THE LEARNING IS WELL WORTH IT ALL. MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD SON LOVES TO GO AND FEED THE CHICKENS. WE GIVE HIM A JAR OF FOOD TO THROW ON THE GROUND MOST OF THE TIME HE SCARES THEM AND THEY FLY AND HE JUST LAUGHS AT THEM. HE "FINDS" THE EGGS EVERY DAY, SO EVERY DAY IS LIKE EASTER.... IT REALLY HAS BEEN A GREAT EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE.

I CLEAN THE CHICKEN COOP 2 TIMES A DAY ONCE IN THE MORING AND ONCE IN THE EVENING. THE HAY GETS RAKED OUT AND FRESH PUT IN EVERY DAY. AS IT STANDS RIGHT NOW WE USE THE BURN BARREL TO BREAK EVERTHING DOWN AND THEN WE USE THE BURNED COMPONENTS AS FILL.

WELL I AM GOING TO GET ALL THE PICTURES AND PUT THEM IN HERE NOW. IT’S A COOL THING AND WE ACTUALLY DID ALL OF THIS IN 1 DAY. WE WERE GETTING THE CHICKENS FROM THE FARMER AND HE COULD ONLY HOLD THEM FOR SO LONG.... SO THIS HAPPEND PRETTY QUICK.
WELL ON GOES MY CHICKEN ADVENTURE….

    SINCERELY
