About 20 years ago I built a small chicken coop. I copied the one found here. https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/monicas-chicken-house.47787/

The fellow who built it had a blog with exact measurements which I followed. I used hardware cloth wire and metal roofing. It worked very well as a grow out pen. And as a breeding pen.

The one thing I didn't like was that the access door to the cage part was too small. The legs were too short.

Over the years, the legs deteriorated so I set out to repair it. The upper structure was still in good shape. Never underestimate the value of good paint!

The new legs are longer, and the whole side now has multiple access doors. I think this will work much better.

Even the Jersey cow had a problem with the old door.

First I removed the old metal roofing, then tipped the coop upside down. The old wire had to go. Now that was not fun. I used an angle grinder to cut it off of the frame.

I removed the old rotted legs. I think the original legs were 32 inches. I made the new ones 42 inches to give the scratching area more head room. I used pressure treated lumber for the new wood.

Our county waste management has a place where people can leave off old paint and chemicals and other people can go and browse the selections. That determined the paint color of the remodeled coop. I think it looks just fine.

The only original door that I liked was the clean-out for the house part. I built three new doors to give me plenty of access.

The old metal roofing was still in decent condition so I reinstalled that. It does need a ridge cap to keep the rain out. I'll get to that soon.
