Great article, helpful and reassuring.
Found this as one of the chicks from my last hatch has been struggling to get in the coop at night w the rest. All the other chicks are able to get in. They are 2 weeks old, and have been following Mums out foraging the last week. The last 4 nights, I've had to retrieve this little one and add to the nesting clutch. We named it IEP, individual educational project, pronounced Eeeeeep. So tonight I was a little late it checks on everyone ans doing close up. Iep was standing in it's own, sleeping, in the growing dusk. I had my headlamp in and saw the eye looked a little weird. So we went I to the house, and I looked closer. One eye doesn't have a dark pupil. The other does. And for a relatively wild chicken with minimal human handling, they chicken let me touch it's eye. So... I'm not sure the extend of blindness. We've had a house chicken. We might again. It's young yet. And seems to survive during the day. Im hoping that maybe I just need to add it at night to the coop until it gets bigger a more use to habits of the others.
We shall see how Iep does. Will ensure extra feedback g at night before tucking into coop. Thanks
