Rhode Island Red Created by FisherMOM Breed Information, Comments, and Experience with breed:
We purchased a Rhode Island Red "pullet" from a bin. Unfortunately, our pullet was a cockerel. This series may help you to decide if yours is a cockerel or pullet. Rose the RIR is a production RIR and not show quality. He was handled every day that we owned him and was a fantastic bird. To this day, his new owners and their children still handle him. My experience with this breed was wonderful and Rose was almost like a dog. Followed us around, came to his name and was quite docile.

He started crowing shortly after this was taken. You can see the green tail feathers and saddle feathers. He is really red in the comb and waddles too.

Rose turned into quite the beautiful gentleman! A true Rhode Island Red is a darker red color. You can see that Rose is a hatchery chicken by his color. But he is still beautiful!
