Roosters: Everything You Need To Know

Good article. But one nit pick…roosters do not just crow only when there is a threat…Roosters crow for several reasons, including asserting their dominance, warning of danger, and communicating with other roosters and hens. They crow in the morning to signal the start of a new day (my boy usually starts about 3-5am depending on the time of year) and to establish their territory (sometimes he hears my neighbor’s rooster and he and my boy crow back and forth) but they may also crow when they sense a threat (my previous rooster did this after he flogged or fought one of us) or during breeding season. Roosters have an internal biological clock that helps them anticipate dawn, and they can crow even in the absence of light cues.

I love roosters, this article makes me
love them more. They are misunderstood.
