Taking the plunge—getting my own chickens. Where do I begin?

Nice starter article on how to go about obtaining chickens, many people just don't know where to find them! Good job!

My only quibble is that I believe the one should begin with the housing, not the birds themselves.

Great article naming all of the sources where you can purchase chickens. A hatchery would be my first choice, Craigslist or your local feed store don't exactly tell you what breed or quality you are always getting. Anyway, it's a very interesting and informative article and I enjoyed reading it!

A good primer on the most often used places to find chickens. One thing I would caution people on is this: "Feed store employees are a great resource for chicken information, too." That can vary wildly store by store (the stores I've gone to in the past, the employees were clueless as to breeds, care, genders, etc.).

But I personally do not agree with looking for birds on Craigslist because in my specific area pretty much all birds listed on CL are not what the seller claims them to be.
Again this may only be in my specific area, buyer beware when shopping on CL.
