Our first shot at a chicken coop - will house 4 Red Sex Links RTL soon.
Followed a few designs out there.
The frame - stained. Dimensions - 5x12. 7' front, 6' back
The chicken coop is 4x4 finished size.
We put it on top of some old pavers we had.
Nailing down the roof. The people door will be the middle section. We recycled wood for the coop - it is now tongue & groove.
The coop - pop hole to come, this will be a cleaning door.
2 windows, laying nest will be on the front.
We put chicken wire on the ground (along the grass) and stapled to the frame, to prevent things from digging down and in. The wire was then be covered in 6" sand - up to the top of the bottom frame. This will allow for drainage in the run.
We put the sand in, and doors on, almost finished!! The pop hole is 13" x 13"; we have 3 laying boxes - 13" tall at coop with drainage slope to 12". We will fix the windows - right now they are just mesh stapled, but will be recessed.
The outside roost (I call it the jungle gym) and feeders are up....
