Using Deep Bedding in a Small Coop

Interesting. I hadn't had the bedding vs litter parsed out for me at all so this is good information. Also gives me some coop design points to adjust before I launch into building. Thank you!

Great article! Answered all the questions that I had about the best thing for my coop which has a dirt floor and is very dry. This is going to be how I do things as well both in my coop and in my covered run. Thank you 😊

This is so incredibly helpful. I would rather do zero work for long periods of time and then hunker down and get things accomplished in a little longer bit of time. I had no idea something like this was possible for chicken shavings and manure. Thank you for taking the time to write detailed instructions and include helpful photos.
Thank you for all the details you included in writing this article and in posting pictures. I had not heard of deep bedding before reading your article. I'm a first-time chicken raiser and have been kind of using this method already. Thanks again!!
What a great article. Must have taken a heapa time to upload this and I thank you.

Being new to this and in the research stage this seems like SOOO much. Read through it once, but I am sure as I repeat the reading it won't seem like so much. This only adds to my excitement for getting our own Hip Hillbilly Farm dolls and a guy.

Think it may be time for me to start putting some of my reading in writing. I am shooting or an August start with the birds but July for coop making.

Thank you, so much, for this well put together post.

Very informative and detailed enough for a beginner and on upward. Thanks for the time you spent on this. I'd like to bookmark this somehow but don't know if that's possible.

Thank you. I'm glad it is helpful to you. That little tab that looks like a rectangle with tails at the bottom is a bookmark symbol.
Very informative! Everything I needed to know. I've heard of deep litter, but not deep bedding. This is the answer to my dilemma!
This article is very informative and has answered several questions I had on daily coop maintenance. Living in the hot, humid south I will follow the suggestions in the article and let my nose guide me. At the present time my coop provides about twice the recommended amount of room per bird so I should be able to go a long time between full cleanings.

Articles like this are what makes BYC a popular place to learn.
Great article and the visuals helped me a lot.
I will probably continue with my hybrid system since I spot clean the coop while scooping the ”gifts” left by my 5 dogs.
i love that I can come beck to this when my schedule changes :)
Thank you for taking the time to write it.
