Good article, I like that it gives explanations in multiple ways - the skeletal diagram, the cartoon drawing, the linked video. Does a good job of explaining it well enough that I feel like I, as a newbie chicken tender, could use this.

I loved this article; read it all the way through and even watched the video. I plan on going outside right now and checking my 4 hens who are almost 21 weeks and only one is laying and egg. All but 1 I've seen doing the submissive squat, however, they have been doing that for about a week now.

As a newbie to raising chickens (and eggs), I really enjoyed your article, especially the illustrations. When we went from two eggs to five overnight, we did the butt check to see who looked like they had "given birth", lol. Girls who were kinda mean and flighty, were now hunkering down when we walked past them for some love. So we give them all the love they ask for. Happy chickens are great egg layers.

This article is spot on! I had no idea what was going on in my coop! The hay was being thrown everywhere, taken out of the nest boxes, the floor was all scratched up...I was starting to wonder if there was fighting going on at night...but today I found my first egg! However, I didn't know the two were related until after reading this article-Thanks!
