One of my girls just started laying and was acting weird, and seemed distressed, so it is reassuring to know that this can be normal when they first start laying. The video link was great, too. Really well written and concise article about how to tell if your chickens are laying! You hear about gauging with your fingers but this provides clear instructions!

Since I am new to raising chickens, this information was a perfect learning moment. The short demonstration was very clear and understandable. The drawings were spot on. I definitely feel more comfortable about knowing when to start looking for eggs.

This was great information. I will actually start using this today. My girls are 11 weeks old and this will be a great method for knowing.

Article a great help and reassurance thanks ! Have a gorgeous Cream LegBar (called Lexy) who's one minute showing she's about to, then next she stops any interest ! Comb has been very very slowly growing and getting redder, then paler but she's now eating loads, become tamer, and does the famous wings out squat when we reach for a stroke - we can't wait for our first blue egg ( no matter how small - bless her !) but she's being very frustrating lol !!

Good description of their behaviour a week or so before they start laying.
My Dutch bantams allways come to get a back-cuddle if they are laying and there is no rooster in the flock. The Millefleur de Tournaise do not (flightly character)

Love the presentation, the information, the diagrams, the attached video, and the time it took to make this information readily available. Although this is not my first rodeo, I found out much about checking for physical signs of maturity. Newer knew there would be a way to check.

This is what I got taught to do here in Spain. It's considered more reliable then comb colour etc once you've had a bit of practice.
Very easy to when the chicken is roosting at night I've found.
