Why coop height matters and the benefits of a taller coop

Wish I had read this months ago, it makes perfect sense! My coop is ok but my 4 ft tall run has me regularly bonking my head as I make cleaning and maintenance visits. I've decided to raise the height by inserting concrete blocks under the existing coop and run, but now dream of my upgraded and smarter setup. Maybe next year...thanks for the ideas!

There is a lot of good advice packed into this short, easy read. The photos and illustrations are nicely done and supportive of the text. On a personal note, I'll add, "Even if your chickens never thank you for the additional coop height ... your BACK will!" :)
Nice article. Good use of photos
This was a nice article to read!

It is important to have a coop that you and the flock can get into easily
Thank you so much for this extremely helpful article. I only wish I'd read it before I unexpectedly git my first 3 chickens and bought a terrible little cheap coop from Amazon. We've been playing catch up ever since.

Amazing illustrations! I love that the article gets right to the point on all the benefits of coop height (for both feathered and unfeathered occupants). Vertical space is useable space in the chicken world!

I agree. Also adding size of width/length. We have 1 coop at only 8' x 4.5 x 8'. The 4.5W is too narrow. I would have preferred 6'. Of course our 8'x8'x9' is wonderful. Thank you for the article.
Excellent, tending to chickens in a snug coop is miserable.

Excellent article bringing up all the great reasons why height matters! Walk-in coops are the only way to go!
I have a walk in coop so it is pretty tall!

Well written with excellent pictures. The boots sticking out from the small coop tell more than a 1000 words. And I love it that you explain why large coops are best but a small coop can work too for some people (with more ventilation and maybe other alterations).
Good article, well written.
Excellent explanation of the bonuses for having a walk-in coop if anyone was pondering buying or building one!

Great pictures and drawing too!
