Rosemary passed just before midnight last night. She's my fourth hen to die from internal laying. Rosemary was a terrible example of a RIR, even for a hatchery bird: she was small, she never had any middle toenails, and she laid a small cream colored egg, a rebel through and through. She was the bottom of the pecking order of my original 8 then when Lexie and Ivy joined the flock a couple months later, she had her very own victims to torture. Ironically, Ivy, who is also laying internally, stood guard over Rosemary for two days. She gave the younger roosters a run for their money, turning on them with claws flying if they dared to get too close to her. Rosemary was a blueberry fiend! She would fly up on your arm or shoulder if you walked close to those bushes-you could see it in her face, if you were even looking at her. Sometimes you weren't and she'd come up anyway. She wanted a lift to the scrumptious blue treats. So, RIP our silly Rosemary. You were a special girl.
