Hi,
I might be going out of town for 3 days at thanksgiving.
Do you know of the simplest automatic chicken feeder
to feed them while I'm gone. I really need a way to feed
them for a simple 3 days.

Thank for reading

I have 7 pullets. I can leave them for 4 or 5 days at a time.

I have a bird feeder that holds 5 lbs - i modified it by making the openings a little larger so the layer pellets can come out easily.
I fill this up and then put another 2- 3 lbs in a dish in their pen.
Sometimes I will leave baby watermelons or pumkins so they will peck at that if they are bored and not eat all their food up.

Then I set up my 5 gallon waterer that I made out of a plastic tub and 5 gallon paint bucket.

This has worked very well and we travel ALOT!!

Check out Omrans homemade feeder under building coops and construction He used a 5 gallon white bucket that he cut I am going to try them as well.
its under coop designs and construction homade feeder cost $00.00

Hubby made me two feeders out of 5 gal. buckets with lids, that what we use when we have to be gone for the weekends and we know they won't be out of feed...We just placed 3 cut out holes around the bucket 2 or 3 inches from the bottom, fill the buckets to the brim, add the lid and it gradually flows down into a bigger metal pan I got at TSC or any feed store. Just adjust your bucket to the size pan you can get.

I made this one from 4" PVC pipe.

Its about 4 ft tall and will hold 20 lbs. of pellets. If you need more capacity, simply increase the length of the vertical pipe.

Go to the learning center at the top of every page and check out the how to section and look up feeding. I made a wood one as seen in the photos that holds 25 lbs of feed. I only have to feed once a week. I had to set it on 2 bricks to keep the wood chips out of the feed trough.
