Anyone know why the eggs from my pet chickens are so much harder to peel than store bought eggs?
Its getting quite bothersom since my kids love curried egg sandwiches so much!

We had that same discussion yesterday. Tried to make deviled eggs. Finally gave up!!

Only thing we could figure is that it is because they are just so much fresher than store bought. Don't know if it's the reason, but sounds good.

hmmm, I was wondering this myself.... I made egg salad a few weeks back for a b-day party boiled about 15 eggs and they were SO HARD to peel, I couldnt figure out if it was just me or the eggs. Cant wait to hear the answers you get !!

Because they are fresh. The store bought eggs are older and for some reason, that makes them easier to peel.

I add a little salt to my water to boil them in and as soon as they are boiled, I cool them quickly, sometimes I add ice to the water to help them cool that much faster. I find that this helps me to peel fresh eggs.

I read you can add baking soda (2 tbsp or so) to the water and the eggs will be easier to peel. I tried it with store bought eggs and it worked like a charm.
I think it has to do with the freshness of farm fresh eggs.... at least thats what my MIL told me. LOL

If you get the eggs fresh from the hen and boiled them then they will give you hard time, but if you live an egg few days and then boil it with little salt, it will peel real easy.
Try it.

Because they are so wonderfully fresh!

After a few days or a week in the fridge they may peel a whole lot easier. Mine do & so that's why I wait a while to boil some of my eggs.

The store bought eggs are allowed to be sold up to 60 days after they are laid~it's worth waiting for your own IMHO.

I asked this same question last week, and got lots of good tips - you can do a search and find many great suggestions. I went with putting the eggs into boiling, heavily salted water, and chilling they as soon as they are done. I had no problem peeling them, even the eggs laid the very day I boiled them.
