My rooster, Tubbers is breathing really loud. He breathes in very hard, then on exhale he is making a whining sound. His color is good and is acting completely normal. It seems to have not affected his eating because he chowed down when I fed him. And he has no problem with a treat of grapes. He is a large black cochin and is about 8 months old. He is in his winter quarters right now (large dog crate in barn with our other roosters). Do you think he may have inhaled some straw? Not sure what to do and I am thinking about calling the vet. Didn't know if his large size could have anything to do with his breathing.
Suggestions anyone?

This is a picture of him when he was younger.

Firstly, I'd separate him from the others. Find a nice quite corner and give him his own crate. Try to look down his throat. If something is stuck, you should be able to see it. With him isolated, it'll be easier to observe him. Look for anything out of the ordinary, moist eyes, nasal discharge, abnormal poo.

Thanks for your input. His eyes are clear, no nasal discharge but he has watery poop. And he now isnt eating anything so I am going to be taking him to the vet this afternoon. It just seems like every time I take any of my chickens to the vet, I get the worst possible news.

Turns out that my Tubbers has pnuemonia.

They gave me some antobiotics at the vet. But there is still a chance he will not make it. I caught it early so that is a very good thing. I am really upset. He's my good boy and I would miss him terribly. Please everyone keep your fingers crossed.
