How well would those dog kennels work for a chicken run? Im thinking they would be the easiest way to go right now and Ive found a couple different ones that people are selling right now on craigslist real cheap. I know around the bottom I would put hardwire cloth around so animals could slip their nasty little fingers through, but other than that how well do they work? Has anyone ever used them? And if so what did you like and dislike about them?

Heres a picture of what Im talking about..

I use dog kennels only! You do however need to run 1" chicken wire or hardware cloth around it, dug into the ground 12" and over the top. Works like a charm. I've got an offer in on another one on craigs list right now in fact!

I hae one that doesn't look nearly as good as the one you havepictured and it workd GREAT. I put two layers of chicken wire on top and then I nailed Landscape timbers to the bottom and it's been standng forever.

The one I plan one getting doesnt look exactly like that, it was just the first picture that I came to. I found a guy selling his for $100. He says "its 2 years old, 12x12x6. There's a total of 8 sections which measure 6x6x6" So Im assuming thats pretty good right? Seeing has brand new these things are close to $500.

i use one and it works great!
just had to put cement around the bottom so nothing could dig under.

I just bought one a week ago. I lined it with chicken wire to keep in the banty chicks. Next I will cover the top with netting to keep them from flying out. The husband is working on the house that will connect to the back. The house will be on the outside of the kennel. Can't wait.
I like the fact that the wire is welded to the frame. The ones that are chain-linked are to loose and can be pushed in by predators.

I got a 10X10X6 on cl for a song... $28!!! I was so excited! We saved a bundle... so, we now have2-10X10 panels down each side to make the run 20ft. long and we made an extra panel for the end w/ some old wire we had laying around, then attached that to the hen house, covered the whole run w/ landscape timbers, stapled and wired chicken wire to the top w/ a couple of clear plastic panels to keep the rain out of part of it (those were very expensive tho ($20 each at HD!). Ouch. Covered the bottom in hardware cloth and it works GREAT! A hawk flew down yesterday and was pecking at the door trying to get in while my lead hen was bawking and squawking at the hawk on the other side... I'm pretty sure nothing but a bear could penetrate that fortress! Go for it! They work great!

I used one, bought the green plastic chicken wire and zip tied it around so that babies couldn't get out and animal hands couldn't get in.

Around the door, gaps would sometimes form and I had a possum get in and eat my show winning roo. So I would get a house that you can lock up for the inside.
