Color Breeding Qestions! HELP!

I'm thinking it would be really nice to have one big list of color crossing outcomes. It is pretty easy to find the Blue/Black/Splash matrix, but how about some of the other color combinations and effect combinations? I know we have some very knowledgeable people on this board doing fascinating work with colors! Can you share? I'll then compile it into one big cheat-sheet list for people to reference. THANKS!!!!

I think it's a great idea, Katie. Those other websites just confuse the heck out of me. When I come across color info, I always write it down so I don't have to go looking for it again. I think this would make it easier for alot of people, having all this info on one thread. So, c'mon color genetics people, let's see what you got!

I like a very simple explaination of the cross results: These are my notes for my blue, black, and splash Jersey Giants and Silkies. I would love to see other mixtures in the same easy to figure out way.

Trying to get into all of the extra stuff just makes my head spin. I know that the actual results will vary, I just want to have a rough idea of what I can expect if I put a particular group of hens and roos together. Thanks!


Black/Blue/Splash Breeding should yield (on average) the following results:

Blue X Blue = 50% Blue, 25% Black, 25% Splash
Blue X Splash = 50% Blue, 50% Splash
Blue X Black = 50% Blue, 50% Black
Splash X Splash = 100% Splash
Splash X Black = 100% Blue
Black X Black = 100% Black
 
I'm sorry, but those 2 sites are BARELY in english. Also, they want to know far more about the secondary and terciary genetic properties than I understand in German/French/English/Italian.

What about Mahogany in D'Uccles? Is there such a thing, and how do you get it? Or Blue Mille Fleur-same question. Is it Blue X Mille Fleur, and what pecentage-50/50?

I just think it's interesting. It would be nice to have it in easy to understand terms.

Breeding American Chocolate aka DUN
Chocolate X Chocolate = 25% Black, 25% Khaki, 50% Chocolate

Chocolate X Black = 50% Black & 50% Chocolate

Chocolate X Khaki = 50% Chocolate & 50% Khaki

Khaki X Black = 100% Chocolate

Khaki X Khaki = 100% Khaki


Heres chocolate breedering even though its the same as blue..haha.

Also mottled x non mottled will give all non mottled.

Once you have figured out how recessives and dominants work then you just need to know which genes are which and you can guess the outcome. Incomplete dominants are a little trickier. Hope that helps.
