Hello Everyone, I am making this thread in hopes that we will have enough people interested in wanting to help out with the cause of changing Orlando, Florida's law in keeping poultry....
We have been able to do allot from Organizing and making plans for these laws, to recruiting many people(60 and more), and even receving a reply from the Zoning District manager.

****IF you dont know what cause this is about then go here..... https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=120019

*Now we ARE in the progress of changing these laws for Orlando and all Florida but of course we need all the support and assistance we can get.*

Now we ( we as in the whole group but myself and the other organizer Karen Hill) are wanting to make a meeting a certain date this month, we dont know when the date will be but we are wanting to make it either in a week or two, but a day that will be convenient for everyone to come out and show that WE WANT THESE LAWS CHANGED!!!!

"Why should people come out and assist this meeting?"

1.Because the more people we have the more support we can get in trying to make the law proposals that we need in order to present them to the Mayor and Board of Commisioners. We need to make a FINAL draft on how and what ammendments if any in the proposal should state for these laws.

2.We will also start getting signatures ( maybe...), and opinions on anything else that should be done pertaining the ownership of poultry in Orlando and Florida Beyond.

*3.we are also going to have TV news reporters (any suggestions?), Orlando Sentinel Editors, and other news reporters/editors we can get!!

Many people around Florida and maybe from other places from the U.S will assist for this change including FFA members, and other groups, but we do need the support from everyone.

This should take place somewhere central not too far away from the crowd (Park, etc?) so if anyone might have suggestions do not hesitate to ask... And we might make a little food meeting as well......please do not hesitate to give your suggestions or opinions.....

Well every help is appreciated Thank You!

Hi there chicken 7777. I am with you on getting our zoning laws changed. I live in Pompano Beach, down south east of you, and we have those same stupid laws. I just love my chickens for every reason you stated above and even more. Right now I have a rooster approximately 6 mos. who has just started crowing, which thankfully I just found a new home for him when I went to the s. florida fair this past Sunday. I don't need to tell you though, he is so noisy, we are now keeping him inside just SO, he doesn't give us away. I got him about 6 mos. ago from our feed store saying he was a pullet, well, not this guy. I still love him, hes a good boy thus far, but he needs to go, and soon.

I will be more than upset if the animal control comes over here stating that there was a complaint about us having a rooster, then them making me get rid of them all!!!

Believe me, there is nothing better to make those 2 guys happy.

I will do what I can, just let me know how to get started, we do need a change, and our chickens deserve the best of life, and with all of us, that can happen. Barbara

Thank you soo much b.hromada for replying to this thread, I am happy to see that atleast one Floridian cares!

Even though Its pretty sad to say how no other Floridian in this forum seems to care on this meeting or in giving support to this thread, we have other people though who have registered by email and phone. Those including the people that have been recruited in the past and the recruits they recruited as well! These people all are from Central Florida and even all the way from Miami!

But Lets see if we can be able to win this fight.

Thanks again for the support!

Thank you for the help..........
What this thread is for though is to come on out and give support in changing these statues/zoning division laws/and/or state laws.

I have read that right to farm act, and compared to other states' right to farm acts Florida has nothing to help out people keep poultry as pets or in their homes, just a "farm".

The people that have poultry in Florida and do not care to help in this, are people that might have farms, land, and/or laws that permit them to keep them due to living in an agricultural area, whom these laws do not affect them....
But what everyone wants is freedom of keeping poultry even if they live in a community home with a backyard, and that is why everyone should be involved.

I live in SW Orlando. I am interested in helping change our local ordinances to permit chickens in our backyards. I will send a message to the email address.

As I posted prior - I fully support you in your quest. I cannot, however, participate. it would mean my job. Working for the government means you give up some things you thought were your rights.

Thank you soo much again guys for wanting to come out and give support!
Thanks also to b.hromada whom I have spoke to through email and actually is going to post up fliers all around her community including city hall and some feed stores/pet shops.
Its soo beaufiul to see that we as a community can come together and change these laws...

I do suggest that everyone emails most of all Senator Mel Martinez as he will do something for all of us in making this something stately not just in counties so please give him your opinion and a piece of your mind when you can!

swampwander I understand your situation and that is okay just giving us your support is greatly appreciated! If you can send emails or tell people being reported because of these laws about this cause so that they can also be involved then please do if you cannot then it is fine as well.
(**I know someone that has a husband in the code enforcment office but she isnt affected by helping out so if you have someone that can help out for you like your wife/husband then please do**)

Well we hope to see more people involved and hopefully soon we can all be able to gather for the solution of these local problems.

Thanks again from my part and from everyone else being affected by these laws!
