My mom got this big guy for free THEY SAID he was 6 months old.... I question that. Do the roos get this big??? I dont know anything about the breed, but i think he's handsome. His comb isnt in the best of shape but he's a love bug. Here are some pics, let me know what you think. Would he produce good offspring?? Does he have good genetics???

Hi
Cockerels get big quickly. Hard to say without any perspective.
There is a great read if you like Orpingtons.
The UNITED ORPINGTON CLUB, has a page with exhibition tips by Doug Akers.

Doug Akers is a great guy. He has forgot more then I will ever know.
IF your wanting to breed him Maybe this might answer your questions.

Here is a 6 month old. He is from late last August.

Hope to be some help.
Yeah, If you do breed him and want to know what to keep as breeding stock. He tells it like a judges see's it.
I had some production line birds that are nice. And IF you take your time to develope from them. You can have 4-H quality or better. As Doug would say, type is the first thing you breed for, and then color.
good luck
enjoy

Hi Lisa. I don't think 6 months is that far off for age on that guy. He's still a little light and will fill out on the bottom side as he gets older. BO roos gan be really sweet fellows, except for our rooster Bob, who spend most his days in jail.

Wow, he is absolutely enormous!!

His comb and wattles look a bit dry. Try giving them a nice wash with some warm water and gentle soap (perhaps a bit of baby soap), then grease them up nicely with some Vaseline. Rub them with Vaseline for a week or so, and they should start to look better.

Poor BoB, LOL I know how a cockerel can be. My Brawndo is very aggressive when you get to his level. And he is those Very majestic gentle giant Buff Brahma and Buff orp mix. IF he was not from the guy who sold me 2 black Orps I would not have him anymore.
But I love my Orps even the mix.

hahahaaaaa poor Bob.

Really but the size of his wattles and comb threw me for a loop. Hes monsterous! Hes almost as big as my giant barred cochin!
