Blood ring question

So I candled at day 9 and found an egg with a blood ring. What causes those? I know that it's a quitter, but it seemed like it was forming at first and then all of a sudden it turns into a blood ring? Is that how I know that they are quitters? Thanks for the help

Usually bacteria has entered the egg somehow and the embryo dies.

It could be from very rough handling during shipping as well. I had several blood rings form with the last shipped eggs I hatched.
 
I think the ring is a combination of the formed blood and bacteria - most bacterias have a color, be it pink or rust or red or black or green. On the inside of an egg combined at the edge of the whites and developing tissue it ends up looking like blood.

I'm willing to bet that it's mostly just colored bacterial culture at that point. Along the developing veins would be where the most bacteria are likely to form, more nutrients. So you get a bacterial streak or ring where the veins were forming.

Make sense?
 
Oh i do understand! so I got bacteria in my egg? Is that caused by handling them with dirty hands? I would hate to think that I caused this
 
My blood ring started from Day 2 on. I gave it a week but knew it was a blood ring. When I opened the egg there was a Day 2-3 old embro. It was starting to look like a duck but mostly just a bloody blob. I took pics but didnt post them yet. If I decide to add the poor little bugger they will be in my candling photos soon. Theres a BYC page I made, and thread.
 
Sometimes eggs just have flaws that allow bacteria in as they are laid, after they're laid or yes if you have fouled hands while handling them but in general it's a product of the egg or the coating that's supposed to be on it being flawed.

You should keep your hands clean when handling eggs but it's usually just something with the egg itself.
 
I always wash my hands before I touch the eggs so it must have came in contact with the bacteria before shipping. Ive also read that it could just be deformed or have something wrong with it, and couldnt survive past a few days.

I use handcleaner before and after handling my eggs. I still got a blood ring.
