I have some cornish crosses that I will be looking to butcher later this month. I never did it before and would prefer that it be done right. Is there anyone somewhat close to the Springfield area that can do this for me?

You can try contacting the poultry dept at UCONN, they might have some ideas for you

I was actually going to give me a call myself because I'm interested in finding someone too.

I know of guy on the Feeding Hills/Suffield CT line, I can get his info for you (the name is just escaping me now, of course!)

Springfield is my home town, unfortunately i live very far away now, and am rather amateurish in my butchering practices myself.

Doubly useless LoL

I just wanted to post because I miss home some times.

If you wouldn't mind passing the name onto me I would sure appreciate it. Suffield is 30 min from me.

I live in western Mass also and there is no one around here that will process chickens for you. If someone wanted to, they could make a lot of $ on the side doing it for folks like us.

Brain freeze is over..

It's D'Agata's Fine Family Farm, in Suffield, CT. Nice people. If anyone needs the phone number, I can PM you.

Not sure if this will help but I was curious and started searching online and only found a few things that might pan out for a processor in MA.

Try this link to organic livestock resource guide and scroll halfway down to section 5. The list is of small processing facilities, 5 or so in MA and a phone call to them should tell you if they process poultry.

I found this link about a mobile processing unit in the works, interesting read and pictures of the unit:

And this is a farm that actually uses a MPPU, they drive pick the unit up and return it when done. Scroll down to the bottom of the page for a picture of the MPPU and the name where they pick it up at. They have a link for the place but it does not have much info, possibly an email to peteandjens will yeild better info about the MPPU for you.

I am the opposite of an expert on this one BUT I've got a couple of friends who process their own birds in medium to large amounts, and have done so for years.

I will see if they'd be interested in doing anyone else's. About how many birds are we talking about, at one time? Let me know and I will run it by them.
