Took some pics of a couple of the cockerels I'm keeping to choose my final guy from.
Here's the one I've been calling the Rockstar. He'll have an actual name if he's the one I choose. At the moment, he's the favorite for his markings and comb and is the second largest boy.

This guy is my #2 choice. He is the largest boy, a real tank, but his comb isn't as nice as #1. He's the friendliest of all. This pic was last week-didn't get him today.

This is Maxie. She's an attention hound and you'd better pay attention to her or she'll grab your pants, taking some skin along with them, or she'll jump up on your shoulder.

Thanks, Gloria Jean. I have a name all picked out for whichever one I end up keeping. He was a standout from the time he was about five weeks old. The #2 cockerel has slightly more even tail color, but his comb has one extra point and they aren't completely even. Wish I could keep two of them, but there is no room at the moment.
 
I like Rockstar's type. He's got a nice shape for a youngster. Thanks for doing this online journal, Cyn. It's good for folks to see how much Delaware youngsters change as they grow. I can't think of another breed that goes through such a transformation, although I'm sure there must be others.
 
I agree that the Delaware breed's markings seem to "evolve" much more than other breeds I've seen. The closest other breed to me would be the SL and GL Wyandottes, whose markings are just streaky as youngsters, then the lacing come in nice and clear as they mature. What you start with is nothing like you end up with.
The pictures just don't show how huge the largest cockerels are. It's hard to believe that they are just 11 weeks old! The boys don't seem all that much smaller than my older Del pullet, Kira, is 10 months old.
 
After looking at this thread I see what you mean about one of my columbian rocks having Delaware coloring! It's the one I got along with the two white rocks.

And wow these are 11 weeks old?? If they are similar to the columbian rocks mine are certainly pullets!

Thanks, so do I. He's still basically a baby, but if his temperament holds when the hormones are raging, then I have a real winner, I think. And he'll continue to fill out over the next month or so, so he should be a hefty boy.
