Brisnea Thermometer - Not accurate?

I bought a Brisnea Eco 20 and set some quail eggs in it, using the built in thermometer because I apparently CANNOT get a thermometer that works properly.

Well today I set a ball of clay in it to check the temps using a medical thermometer as I read on here, just to be sure, and came up with 91.3 after a few hours.

Are you freaking joking me??

This is really the final blow for me. I've set quail eggs FIVE times now, and had a problem each time. I have ten quail right now from a total of FIVE settings, all over 25 eggs each, some were 40-50 egg settings!

Not to mention raccoons have wiped out my chicken flock, within days. I didn't have a chance to even buy a trap.

I'm so frustrated and sick and tired of stuff just not WORKING for me.

I set these eggs on the 13th, what chance do they have. I'm trying to up the temperature until I get a good reading with the clay.

To top it off, I am half finished with my quail cage that I started today with the thought now that I have a "good" incubator I'll have lots of quail to put it in.

I am an inch from giving up for good. I am in tears even and so sick of having stuff fail on me.

Well don't feel bad. Yours is not the first brinsea to fail. First of all get another thermometer and disregaurd the brinsea. Adjust your temperature up to the correct setting and then see what the brinsea says. If when you can get it regulated the brinsea stay a certain temperature you can probably go by it once you know what it needs to read. We had problems with both humidity and temperature. I think we wound up about 39 celsius but your may be different. We bought a digital thermo/hygro and finally got to hatching some. This was an oct 40 and a piece of junk. I finally sold it to somebody i didn't like. I would be glad to help further if i can.

Wow, that really stinks. If the eggs have only been set a few days though, it might not have hurt them too badly? If you'd like, I have about 30 eggs laying around that I can't seem to even give away, plus a dozen or so mixed bantam eggs, and 4 or 5 duck eggs. I could send them to you for the shipping, if you want to try it all again?

ETA: The best thermo/hygro things I have are the cheapos from walmart. They are the little $6 jobs that are made by springfield. Haven't had one that was off on temp yet, but the humidity does vary in them.

What's REALLY frustrating is I do not have another thermometer. I also don't go into town except on Tuesdays. Where I live, going into town is a very long drive, so I have no way of GETTING a thermometer until then.

Well I take it back. I have a Fluckers, which I think does not work properly. Have a probe, which I ALSO do not think works properly. I have YET to get two thermometers that show the same temperature.

That's very kind Shelley, but as of right now I am SO angry and frustrated I don't even think I want to keep going with this. I was SO excited to get the Brisnea and finally hatch some quail.

I feel like throwing up, frankly. That's how mad I am.

I would run the test with the ball of clay again. I have read that you need to leave it in the incubator for 8 hours at least then check it. It takes a while to build internal temp.
Hope things work out for you.

I'm going to give these eggs a shot, simply because the thought of more money down the drain PLUS the fact some of them might be goldens makes me soo ill its unfunny. I'm having a go with my flucker's again, because it's showing the same temps my Acurite I keep on my desk is showing.

I know I must sound so ungrateful, but its just SO frustrating for me and this was a real kick when I was down.

I wouldn't give up on these yet. If you can get a corrct reading and run it a little hot the rest of the way they will catch up. What kind of quail eggs are they?
