I opened my door to see a bear 3 ft away from me, if that, sniffing my chicken and her 5 babies that I put outside for some sun. All my chickens were thankfully not free ranging but in the cage. It came back like every 10 minutes. The dumb bear had two tags and a collar on, apparently we give the pesty ones accessories...

I am SO scared, please God not again.

Sounds like a naughty repeat offender.

Since he has obviously not learned, he's probably on a list to be destroyed. Some bears learn, some bears don't.

Keep you and your family safe first, then worry about the birds.

Oh sorry, the Mom and chicks were brought in as soon as the bear was away from them but the coop isnt far from my door and it kept coming back even after the Mom and babies were in. I had to keep chasing it away by making all kinds of noise, eventually we got all the chicks and chickens inside the coop and loicked it up tight but we have seen what that does... I have to work tomorrow and I am afraid to leave them home... I just dont have room to pull at the chicks and chickens back in the house...

Thanks everyone for your concern I REALLY appreciate it. I am scared for my family and the people/pets in the neighborhood

Get a paint ball gun asap! Freeze the balls in the hopper and keep the gun by the door. Get blue or yellow anything other than red. Next time it comes back and Im 98% sure it will put the hopper on and shoot out of the window or cracked door. They hurt I have been hit with them I know and the bears do not like them one bit. Look next time then open the door. I am glad you and yours are safe.

It has a collar? Humm... I'd call fish and game and see if they are tracking it for some reason.

Maybe I'm not understanding the collar you are talking about though.

Good luck!

Call Fish and Game (or whoever is the equivalent in your area), now. The collar and tags make it sound like someone is keeping tabs on this animal, and if it is a nuisance Fish and Game can probably help. Bears can make even the strongest coops into matchsticks, and WILL once they know you have something delicious in there.

I have bears, but we also have a hunting season on them, so they are pretty shy. A few years back we had one that was quite bold, though. Scared the life out of me. I couldn't hang out in my yard alone for months after.

Keep safe.
