I love the treat chart- it is so comprehensive and wonderful- and I have gotten some great advise in the baby chick forum-

so now I am wondering When you can offer these treats- I have babies, not even a week old. I don't want to advance their diet too fast, but I also would like to offer them some diversity and help them associate us with yummy things.

So, do any of you have a guide or schedule you like to use (something akin to what peds do with human kids- like our pediatrician advised us to begin solids at 6-9 months- start with green veggies, then orange and yellow, no dairy for 1 yr, no nuts for 2, etc)

I am a pretty conservative, organic mommy when it comes to feeding my human child, so I would probably go the same route with chickens, but I wonder can I give them some of my kid's organic strawberry yogurt, or should I stick with plain (when I begin to offer), when can they have berries, or tomatoes?

Is there anything that really improves their health or immune systems? We are raising BO's mainly as pets, egg laying is an exciting bonus

Most people start with plain yogurt and/or hard boiled or scrambled eggs. Sometimes you have to mix a little yogurt into a bit of feed to help them figure out it tastes good. You will hear all sorts of opinions on when is safe to start. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with these at this age. Big thing is make sure most of what they eat is the feed, to ensure complete nutrition. Though a little live culture yogurt gets their intestinal flora off to a good start.
