Does anyone use the nipple water drinkers?

Our new chicks are in the coop and we are using their small waterer right now because the big ones are sold out at Agway - I've seen that ultra mod Eglu coop and they sell a nipple water dispenser that attaches to the side of the coop...(like a big version of a rabbit waterer, etc).....always a clean source of water. We have 7 chicks - does any use these? Are the chickens getting enough water? Would love to hear your thoughts on these....

I use these on milk jugs (they are cheap) and the nipples are $1.99 so not bad investment. just remember to leave the lid off the milk jug or they get the air out and then no water will come out when they hit it.

The one that says "push in" i use on milk jugs.. my pheasants, turkeys, silkies, quails and all.

The one that is the "super flow threaded" are for thicker plastic like a bucket.

Tek farm suggests the threaded for gravity fed (like milk jugs and buckets) as they say the push in will leak and not recommended for gravity fed. But I will say I have yet to have one leak and all my OH's pheasants and quails and turkeys are on the push-in ones. It takes maybe at the longest 10min to teach them to use it.
Now I have some big Little Giant 3-5-7 gallon waterers and I took the base off and put the waterer on a hook and used a couple of these threaded nipples on them and it works great. No more shavings and dust in the water trays. Once a week I take ACV and wipe off the nipples to clean them. They will work also with just a plain bucket.

cjexotic - is there anyway you can post a picture of that in use? i'm having trouble picturing it...i DO like the $1.99 price tag...especially after building our coop!

Nice pictures and that is the way mine look. I will get pictures of the ones on the larger waters I have as soon as I can for you to see.
 
We bought the Farmtek nipples and my DH is building them a waterer. We were advised by a poultry professor that nipples are the way to go to prevent illness.
 
the shipping on the nipples are very high. I ordered three an the extra rubbers that go around then and also the drip cups in case I want to use a large pipe about 8.00$ for shipping. When I got them they had a piece of some kind of board in the bottom of a large box that really weighed a lot . The nipples an everything was way less then the packing. I will ask next time to put them in media envelope because it will be cheaper

I agree with the "estimated" shipping costs being high...I just checked and for 12 of these nipples the estimate was $10.51 for *regular* shipping...not priority. Seems they may be trying to make a profit on the shipping.
