Boy one, Luciano, having a snit and refusing to be photographed or to come out of the shade. He has a four point comb, great color legs, his tail is different from the other two, you'll see. He's also smaller than Gallant and less wide than Goofus.

Boy two, Gallant, two many and irregular points to his comb, great leg color, he's HUGEEEEEE. His tail is different, so is his hackle back and tail color as well as tail set.

And Goofus of the bad feet, and sprigged comb... He's HUGE and sweet so he hasn't been culled yet.

I don't like Luciano's markings. Not nearly enough barring in the tail, from what I can see. But Gallant is very good (except for the comb)! I can't see the comb very well, but I love the distinct black and white barring in his tail, and his type is great! Goofus has a nice, broad chest and great markings, but that sprig means, well, not good--that's a major flaw, which is a crying shame because I really like his size and markings too. Gallant has a better head, though. Nice development in wattles and his general head shape is typey for a Del male. If temperament isn't an issue, he's your man. I'd breed him to hens with good combs, and save his best son.

Thanks Janet! That's the way I was leaning. He's nicer than Luciano. I thought Luc's tail might be a thing.

I'll just keep working toward better combs and he is a good bit larger than Luc.

I may keep Goofus in the meat pen and see how he does in that regard. Boy, these guys grow fast.

I'll try to post some of my pullet pics later

My breeder girls are a lot larger in general than the hatchery pullets but shorter on color, both leg and hackle.

I did get one big girl with great legs, but I think I'll get picky all over Gallant's offspring and not my six remaining pullets. I'll see what fall produces in chicks. At least I know what sprigs and green legs and pale legs and too solid tails look like now.

Sorry I'm late to the party, Cher! I agree completely with Janet (heck, she's taught me everything I know anyway, LOL). And that boy is HUGE! Reminds me of that guy who turned out to be a little snot...well, not so little. He was humongous. All these boys with their various faults in one way or another just goes to show that it's very hard to breed up to a perfect Delaware, even when you start with some of the best parent stock in the world! All of them have great traits, but don't you just wish you could put them all together in one bird sometimes?

Boy, do I ever, Cyn! LOL. It's like a game, where you are constantly trying to shift things around to make things line up. But, if you do get that one really good specimen, well, then that's worth something. Honestly, I don't care if it's me or someone else working with these lines. I'd just like to see someone do it. So, I'm rooting for you and Cher

Janet I will be looking for eggs come fall, I think the girl lot here will need some improving.

Yes, I'd like to make my boy of those three - Luc's comb, Goofus color and width, Gallants legs chest and head... pity it doesn't work that way.

Gallant and Goofus are also liked by more of the girls, which should also work out better. Luciano can really be a snot.

The Del girls I got up online...

Figured I'd not bog the whole forum, chuckle

Cher, you got 'em. But, I'll say this: I'm in the same boat as you and Cyn; some of my girls have too many comb points and not-so-great shank color. Oh well, I'm working on it... Looks like you have one or two with great tail black, though

I do like the serious size on some of the girls and the good concave form. And MAN my rocks were no where near that size at that age.

They're not even LAYING and they're bigger than most of the Rocks. I was pleased with the tail black and leg color in the two you mentioned.

Still having MORE choice for future and to sort from is always useful. So fall will see some additions as well as what I get bred here. My only Roo for Fall is going to be Gallant.

I'm doing a full generation of him over the PRs/BRs and Blue for size. Weeeee... talk about color crap shoot. Then back to separation of the Rocks for color. Rock rainbow here I come.

Then I'll go back to Dels as separate. I really like all this project stuff. Chuckle.
