This will be the second time I do this. It's like a tupperware party, but I'm not selling anything... except the idea of keeping backyard chickens! It started because I had friends who were interested, but skeptical.
It's an informal, drop-in, drop-out party. I save up my eggs and make a bunch of deviled eggs, chick shaped sugar cookies, and other garden party foods.

I make the deviled eggs look like tiny hens, and decorate the yard and porch with chicken and egg-themed stuff.
I have a place with lots of literature - cards with the BYC website, pamphlets on chicken care, printouts of the types of breeds, and simple coop and tractor plans from BYC member pages. And, of course, something on factory egg farming

.
I let the hens run around, and people can go into the fenced part of the yard to play with them,

or stay on the other side of the fence with the food, whatever they're comfortable with. The kids especially love playing with the chicks!

It's fun, and it's actually kinda easy! I threw the first one (see photos) together in a day, on a whim. I had 20 people show up. This time I'm expecting more like 30. Some repeats, some new guests!

Who else wants to do it? We can share food and decorating ideas, places to find good printable literature, and photos!!!

I love that idea. That is my goal for next year, and I will invite all the BYC'ers in KY. How fun is that? I love the little deviled hens. The pamplets are a great idea too. You should set up little chick starter packs, with chicks if you have them. Sex-links would be great for that project, and give all the Roos to somone who wants some meaties. It seems like all my friends think chickens are not so cool though, I might only get BYCers to come. I could have a Hen party with Chicks. Thanks for the ideas. HenZ

I think that sounds like a really wonderful idea. People ask me all the time about our chicken venture. It would be great for them to see it upclose and and also get some information. My girls won't be laying until the fall so I think I would shoot for next spring (hard to have an outdoor affair in NH anytime between Oct - April). Who do you invite so that you aren't just preaching to the choir and how to you get the word out to folks who would be actually interested?
