1) What type of bird , age and weight. - SLW about 6 months
2) What is the behavior, exactly. - not eating puffed up
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? noticed last night & brought her in
4) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. Egg protruding from vent w/ flesh around it
5) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. Egg bound
6) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. drank but puked most of it up
7) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. hasn't pooped
8) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? warm water bath - tried to use mineral oil but can't find edge of vent
9 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
Do it my self
10) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. I'll post them in a bit.
11) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Shavings, free range

Egg is protruding out with a fleshy substance around it. I can't really find the edge of the vent.
Should I brake the egg and try to take it out?
Should she just be culled?
She is a fairly new layer.

i use sugar to treat prolapse. I have never had one with a prolapse and an egg tho. try sprinkling sugar on it to shrink and retract prolapse and maybe the egg will come on. hope this helps. ( btw, mine that prolapsed was a SLW too... wonder if it is common w. the breed?)

Well I got the egg out and put sugar on her vent. I'm keeping her in a dark place. We'll see what happens.

At lunch time she hadn't eaten or pooped. Her vent was still sticking out some so I tried some more sugar. Just got home and I'm eating dinner now. I'll check on her again in a few minutes. Here are pictures of the egg stuck in her.

*gasp*

Poor baby! Is the egg caught in a "fold" of skin/tissue? Know what I mean...Like when a pocket gets turned inside out with something still in it?

Are you using powdered sugar or is that just camera glare?

i am wondering the same thing.... please use reg. granulated sugar...

poor poor hen.... if by once trying gran. sugar and you see no improvement, go w. prep H or take her to a vet.
