a close up of Harriet (so named by my son for her "hairy" legs) She is a Maran and Americauna (sp?) from a local breader, supposed to produce olive eggs but with my luck she will end up being a roo

What beautiful babies and GREAT names!! I think your 4 year old has awesome taste in names. Im not very good at picking breeds but Im going to guess that the mystery chick is a Buff Orpington? Maybe? Looks a bit like our BO did when we got her but could also be another Red Star?

Congrats on the new chicks! Im sure someone will jump in and help ya out with the breed.

that would be neat! (to the buff o suggestion) I was not expecting an extra bird so it was a total surprise to me, with all of them running around i had to recount a couple of times to realize that i had an extra lol

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I think Hariet is actually a Harry. On Annie and Claribel, the two Dominique's, I think you might possibly have a little roo there too. The large white/cream spot on the top of the head, along with the white legs would be a good indicator. Here's a link to help you determine sex on both Dominique's and Barred Rocks, since much of the BR line was derived from various cross breeding's with the Dominique's in the beginning, they share certain characteristics in that department.

You will probably be able to better judge which sexes you have on those two after you review the link, since you're right there and can see them far better than any picture could portray.

And I totally agree with you that the little EE is absolutely precious!

I'd give my eyeteeth to have her too! Your son does indeed have very good taste in naming chickens. Mind if I borrow him for a couple of hours? I have 18 in the brooder, half of which are in desperate need of names!

As for your little mystery chick, I'm thinking, more than likely a Buff Orpington. If so, you're going to love having her in the flock. BO's are some of the sweetest natured chickens in the world! I hope you'll post update pictures from time to time of your little flock. They're all so cute!

**Edited to get the darn names right!

lol, well the Doms had better be hens, they were ordered as "pullets" but we all know how that can go lol! And I will indeed be dissappointed if I end up with a "hary" but she/he is so pretty might be ok, as long as they are on the not aggressive side lol! I am in love with the leg feathers lol, they are so cute!

I am a picture fiend so I am sure I will have pics to update as they grow

I am loving just how fast the 1st 2 have changed! every day I get home from work to what appears to be new chickens because of the changes lol!

And oh yes my Child is a naming machine, and what is amazing to me is that he remembers the names too! And who they belong to! He was raddeling them off to my mom this morning lol!

I agree that Widget is adorable. As are all the rest of them, but Widget's picture just tugged at my heart. Major AWWWWWWWW! reaction.

I'm glad to hear MPC does such a good job; I still have 3 chicks "in the shopping cart" at that website.

ugh your making me jealous our chicks get here the 30 (they are so cute!!)
i think the extra chick is a buff orpington or a leghorn:idunno
