I accidentally put my two Welsummer chicks with my 5 Speckled Sussex. This might be a stupid question but I cant tell them apart

Is there any way to tell them apart at this age or hints I can look for? They were born 4/5/10. I can also post pics of the whole bunch if that helps. Thanks!

Very cute! I'd guess that the ones with barred wings are the Wellies and the ones with the white wing tips are the Sussex.

Just ask them?

I've never had Speckled Sussex, so I don't know what you need to look for there. But the welsummers (assuming they are females) will feather in salmon color feathers on their chest. Of course that means you have to wait to tell who's who.

I tried to ask the but all they do is look up at me like "what were chicks... get over it. you will just have to wait and see

The Welsummers are supposed to be pullets and the speckled sussex are straight run so I have everything ALL confused lol! I have to tell the girls from the boys and the wellies from the SS

I wish I would have thought before putting them together!!!

Here i smy Speckled Sussex at about 6 days old. Now she's about a week and a half old and I pulled her out to inspect her closer so I can give you hints

So - as I said above she looks like she has a speck of white eyeliner under each eye. When I spread her wings all are shades of brownish EXCEPT the front three feathers on the "second tier". I'm sorry I don't know the formal names for feather layers, but when she spreads her wings she has 3 prominent white feathers on the front middle. I hope this helps

I'll see if I can get a pic of her wings for you.

Okay, from the pictures nlove posted the sussex appear to have more of a smudge at the eye. The welsummers will have eyeliner and more of an > behind the eye. Also, no white on the front of the wings on a welsummer.

Here's some pics of my welsummers (not from a hatchery, but there should be some similarities):

And showing the salmon coloring on the chest:
