Supposedly my BO's I just got are 12 weeks old this thursday. As you can see in the pics below, one is much smaller than the rest of them.(All 4 are 12 weeks). The little one was picked on at the breeders and caged with the other BO.(why she has no tail feathers) Since they have a buddy system I took them both. I have had them for 5 days now. Eatiing/drinking and pooping are all normal until this morning. Someone has bloody stool.First stool looked like a blood clot and second was like red tainted water. All four have clean butts and I have been watching them for the past hour. Do they poop when you want them to? NO! So I don't know who it is.

Little one is just standing around with her eyes closed, not very interested in her hard boiled egg and is not chirping. She is normally babbling to everyone about everything. So this leads me to think that she is the one with bloody stool but I can't prove it because she hasn't eaten anything yet.

Do you think this chick is really 12 weeks old? And should I go get some medicated chick starter to mix in with the flock raiser. They were on medicated feed until 10 weeks but if she is younger perhaps she was never on medicated feed long enough and has cocci??? Any thought here? Her behavior and energy is on the low side

I'd get that little one away from the others if you can. You are right, there is something wrong. Even the other birds know that and that is why they've been picking at her.

If you have more birds than this keep the old flock far away from the new ones if you can for as long as it takes to figure out what is going on.

cocci I think. The stress of moving made it more than this one could bear. Put powdered milk in feed right now and treat with Amprol if you can asap. First State Vet Supply sells is and most feed stores do as well. Summett is hard on the system so get the corrid/Amprol

But if you put 1/4 powdered milk (I like the organic powdered goats milk) in the food right now and he eats it it will coat the intestines and help him out a lot. But you will need the Amprol to kill some of the cocci and get him through it.

Good Luck

ETA he is in the final stages now so f you dont react fast he will die and I mean soon. Sorry to be so blunt. even with immediate tratment you can loose him. Make sure he eats if he is not then consider making a thin mash of buttermilk and starter feed and hand feeding or tube feeding him. Once you have the amprol put it in water and make sure he drinks it, you can sprinkle a bit in the wet mash also.

NO VITAMINS as the cocci will get worse they love vitamin B and thats how the Amprol kills them it blocks the vitamin B and they die.

Definately looks like cocci. I had a run in with it about a month ago but lost 5 before I figured out what was going on. Same age birds too. I was able to save everyone else with the meds. Within a day of medicating you should see great improvement.

Ok I'm back. The only product they had is sulfadimethoxine. is that summet? The directions are ridiculously confusing. It says contents of packet to 50 gallons of water. I have a one gallon waterer. Anybody know what to do???

that will work but it is summett I think and very harsh on the system. E-mail me your address and I will ship you some amprol. 1 taspoon per gallon or so is the dose. or 1/4 teaspoon for a quart waterer. I will get it to you priority todayt should be there tomorrow unless you feel like a drive I am in Westchester but have to be up by Westchester Medical later today if you wanted to meet part way.

did you get the powdered milk?
