whoa. watched it this morning, goes right along with what my family's been up to lately, thinking about where our food comes from. we've planted 3 fruit trees, 3 berry plants(I want more), a variety of fruits and vegetables in our garden, and of course our lovely ladies in the coop will be giving us eggs this summer. now I'm wondering what other ways I can introduce more natural food sources into my family's diet. any ideas?

I've seen it. I found it insparational and it help us alot!

Just saw it last night. Had to look away a few times (I've seen the ugly animal videos before and stopped eating most store-bought meat a long time ago). I'm lucky to live where there's easy access to fresh LOCAL food for the most part. HAPPY EARTH DAY!

as far as meat goes, I've been entertaining the idea of getting a deep freeze and buying a side of beef from somewhere that raises cattle in a humane way. chicken may be a little tougher, I do live in the midwest so maybe I could find a poultry farm somewhere around here

I dvr'd it and am going to watch it this weekend. Bracing myself for nausea.

As for introducing more natural food to your diet, in addition to gardening, chickens, fruit trees, etc., I've been researching edible common weeds. Wood sorrel, purslane, chickweed, dandelions, wild garlic, edible mushrooms - those are just a few in my urban back yard!

We're also growing shiitake mushrooms on logs and are members of a CSA.

It's not really that bad as far as being graphic, I would probably let my older kids watch it(older just because the lil ones would be bored to tears)
It's very eye-opening and informative. never again will I purchase any product from IBP, Perdue, Cargill, Tyson(I'm sure I'm forgetting one), not just for the treatment of the animals, but the people as well. I've been researching how to find non-corn fed animals with no hormones, etc. it's looking like whole foods is the best bet

Welcome, phaethona.
