Yesterday I hatched 4 chicks from my Splash Ameraucanas. In the past all the chicks have, of course, been 100% splash. But one of these chicks actually looks blue to me. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of hatching a blue from two splashes. I'll be interested to see how it eventually feathers out.

wow, there is NO chance another bird could have been in the mix?
splash x splash is supposed to equal 100% splash

odd...

No, the only ameraucanas I have laying are the Splash on Splash pen. I have some younger Blue/Black Ameraucanas, but they are not laying yet, and in a totally separate pen. Also this is one of the silkied ameraucanas, and if it really turns out blue - I would be estatic!

Hi! It's genetics and for every *rule* there has to be an exception! For whatever reason, the chick didn't inherit the blue gene from each parent like it *should have* and it sure looks blue --- just a fluke, maybe?
The chicks are looking fabulous!

I sometimes get "dark splash" silkies. They look blue, but when they feather out, there will be dark splotches here and there, sometiems only a feather or two. But they produce like splash. Cross to black, everything comes out blue.

It looks splash to me, all the splashes I've hatched have been more of a dark grey than yellowy-silver colored.

ETA: If it were a blue chick, it would look like a black, with white on its belly and wings. The part that would be black on a black chick would have a 'dusty' shading to it.

I was also thinking it just may be a dark colored splash. I bet when its older it will have lighter patches in it. Maybe a reverse colored splash.. Instead of mostly white with dark spots.

Are all those chicks from your silkie Ameraucanas
