Yay, he got here one day late in the mail but safe and sound!!! He is so pretty and he just started crowing now and it's SOOOO cute!!! I was SOO happy when I opened the lid and saw his little face looking up at me!!!

Put him in a carrier for the ride home so he had more room... he ate a ton!

I hope you and your flock enjoy having him around. I think he's a wonderful guy and should give you lots of joy with his crowing and his adorable antics. Keep us posted on his progress. And have fun!

Well there's a can of worms for you, Goldnchocolate. First, there's lots of great info here:

To add a little more detail: I bought one of the Horizon New Single Nest boxes to send him in (http://www.hm-e.net/p1single_new.htm) and checked in advance with my PO to see how late I could bring my "package" for overnight shipping via Express Mail. I packed him up and brought him in by 3pm on Monday, then handed him over and walked away with my tracking slip.

I sent the roo by Express Mail with guaranteed overnight delivery by noon the next day. HE DID NOT ARRIVE THE NEXT DAY, and I was frantic with worry when they couldn't track him down. Apparently USPS has major problems trying to track a shipment in process, so we spent the day he was supposed to arrive making calls, harassing our local POs, and worrying, worrying. He finally arrived first thing in the morning on day 2, having been stuck in that little box for nearly 48 hours. Fortunately, as Cari reports, he was just fine.

If I could offer any advice for folks shipping birds in the future, it would be: put more food/fruit in there than you think they'll need. I thought guaranteed overnight shipping was... er... guaranteed, but apparently you can't rely on that! I put in almost a whole apple and Cari said it was completely gone by the time he arrived. I wish I had thrown in two, or even more, so he wasn't so hungry on arrival.

At this point when I even see a USPS truck going by I just fume, that they would lose him for a day!!

I'm so glad it's a happy ending, though. Phew.

Concurred! Put in more than you think they would need and cut it so it can't roll around and hit them.

Big Sur was crowing at my girls yesterday... they run for cover, it was so funny!

This morning he didn't start crowing until 6... yay! And the girls were totally used to it by now.

What else I noticed is that he is almost as big as they are!

Well at least just as tall, but he is much lighter.

He's doing great!
