My New Roo!!!! **UPDATE NEW PICS**

Glad this turned out well for everyone. I definitely second the recommendation about the food. Shipment taking longer than promised seems not to be uncommon unfortunately. I have had it happen also and the extra food saved mine too.

What a coincidence! We just got our first rooster last night, too! He also happens to be a silver-laced Wyandotte! We had split a shipment of 16 S-LWyandotte peeps with my sister-in-law and we got 8 hens; she got 6 hens and 2 roosters. She gave us "Jake" last night. I kept him separate last night and a few hours this a.m. Then I let him out. One hen went after him immediately by which he promptly put her in her place. There was one other minor squabble but now they're doing fine. We're both lucky to get such handsome roos!

Aww do you have pictures of him?

From everything I've read here on the BYC, you need to quarantine any new birds for a while to make sure your flock doesn't catch something.

The reason I did not quanrantine Jake is because he and all my hens came from the same shipment four months ago as 1-day-old peeps. My sis-in-law has had him since with these same hens and one other rooster. Hopefully nothing will happen. BTW, what do they usually quarantine for? I'm not up on chicken diseases.
