What Makes a Sex Link Chick?

as is my understanding of sex links -

black sex links use a 'red'roo , normally RIR or new hampshire ...the mother needs to be a barred rock. chicks will hatch out all black but the roos will have a white dot on their head and feather out with barred feathers with red flecks...pullets feather out black with red flecks round the neck

red sex links use again a RIR or new hamp roo..but you can use different mothers for different 'colours/crosses'
crossing a rir/new hamp roo with a white rock hen will give you gold comets
RIR/new hamp roo x SLW hen = cinnamon queens
RIR/NH roo x RIR hen - red sex links (pullets will be red/buff, roos white)
RIR/NH x delaware or production red = red sex links (pullets red/buff/roos white)

it goes a lot deeper than this but these are just a few examples i found on the web, there are many more possible crosses!

This
will answer most, if not all of your questions!

From your signature, I see you have: 7 Buff Orpingtons, 2 EEs, 1 SLW, 1 White Chantecler, 1 Buff Chantecler, 1 Buff Brahma, 1 Barred Plymouth Rock Cuckoo Maran Cross

I'm not sure of the gender of each of yours, but the following crosses will make sex-links:

Buff Orp roo x SLW hen= red sex-links
Buff Chantecler roo x SLW hen= red sex-links
Buff Brahma roo x SLW hen= red sex-links
*Buff Orp roo x your BR/CM cross hen= black sex-links
Buff Chantecler roo x your BR/CM cross hen= black sex-links
Buff Brahma roo x your BR/CM cross hen= black sex-links

*Here's a pic of my pullets from a Buff Orp x BR cross, this is what you'd get with a Buff Orp roo and a BR/CM cross hen (cockerels will be silvery barred):

Am I the one where you got this from ? Here on the Sexlink thread you can find my explaition on how sexlinks work and my examples that I bred including my Sexlink from a Buff Orp roo and a SLW hen. For it to work the roo has to be gold gened and the hen has to be silver gened so fo this particular cross to work, the Wyandotte hens would have to be Silver laced, Silver Penciled, or Columbian to and bred to a Buff Orp or any pure gold gene roo to make sexlinks. Look at my post in this thread. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=375015

That would be more reasonable but all the names of the sexlinks are from different crosses and theres no way to pin down which cross makes which brand names, some of them are four way crosses anyway.

And Spish also said that a RIR roo ( which in most cases is a Poduction Red) crossed with a Delaware or Pro Red hen will make sexlings. Delawares and Pro Reds are completely differenet and the Pro Red hens wont make sexlinks.

I have 22 pullets of this cross, and some have slate blue legs, some have willow green legs, some have white legs, and some have yellow legs.

I read here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/legchart/leg color chart.htm that if the cock is impure for leg color (he WAS from a hatchery), then the pullets will have all of the different leg colors.

Mystified me for a while, so I had to look it up. I was wondering how white x yellow= green and blue???

For some reason, the link won't post properly. Change "backyardchickens" to "ultimatefowl."
