This is "Crash", who is a one week old Buttercup. As you can see, he holds his leg out and in a strange position. It seems like he can't stretch it out.
He wasn't born this way. What I think happened is, when I first brought the Buttercups home, I put them in with my broody Silkie. Elvira took one look at them and flipped out. She stepped on a couple chicks, and I'm almost positive that is what happened to his leg.
I've waited this long because I was hoping it just hurt and he would eventually bring it down after it felt better. But it seems like he can't move it at all.
Should I splint it, or ????
He eats, drinks, hops around and acts just like all the other chicks. He also seems to be growing at the same rate. I really want to give him a chance, but I don't want him to suffer if he is.

UPDATE
Crash (along with a buddy to keep him company) is currently at the vet waiting to have his leg stitched. The vet is going to move his tendon over and stitch it in place. It can not be popped back into place at this point. Wish little Crash luck!! If he comes out of this being able to walk well, we'll have to change his name!

Poor baby! I have no idea what it is but I just wanted to give my sympathy! I am glad you're inquiring about it while it's still young.

I really wanted to avoid the vet but DH said that he'd rather take Crash to the vet than do anything else at this point.
We both think he can live a normal life if we can at least get his leg to go down straight... I'll keep you guys updated.

Update #2: Crash had his little leg sewn up and is starting to do much better. He can stretch his leg out all the way and DH and I have to do Chicken physical therapy with him every day. I'll post pics when I can. I'm trying to leave him alone so he doesn't stress out.
Thanks to everyone who helped me figure out that it was parosis!!!
