We have nine chickens now and we have been talking about getting more, but my DW wants to wait till spring. This seems to good to be true. There are 18 chickens, 4 fancy roos and the rest are hens...the hens are RI Reds, NH Reds, Buff Orpingtons and feather footed bantams.

Found this add this afternoon:

I'm in fear that the chicken coop is going to collapse so I'd rather find homes for them before it happens since the main barn already came down a few days ago...assortment of brown egg layers and feather footed Bantams as well as some very fancy roosters...Also, 4 lionhead rabbits need to go too...

Well....there is a good chance that they won't be FREE if you wait until spring! I think that is a good enough argument! Good Luck!!

Just show her the ad and ask her what she thinks. You can tell her you would like to rescue some of these poor birds from a dangerous situation. Stress the "we would be saving their lives" part. Good luck!

The ad doesn't sound too far fetched, just use caution when you deal with the person.

Train2110 - Let us know what happens! If my DH were only willing, I'd have a ten times bigger coop and a whole lotta more birds... Darn I didn't think to bring this up in premarital counseling 20 yrs. ago.

The problem is we do not have a seperate coop anymore for the new chicken quarrantine (sp?). I never recieved a reply when I asked if they would split them up.

I hope this means that someone took them.

The quarantine part is what always stops me from taking in "free" birds. Skipping this part is too big of a risk for me. If you're short on space this could present a problem. Kudos for being willing to help a fellow out-- and keep us posted.
