Is Blue Kote really blue in color? If so, how much, like spray paint?
My feed store only has off brands, the one I got was slightly purple, but it made the area a brighter red. I'll need to buy it online but I would like to know if it actually dies wounds blue.

True Blu-Kote is really blue, and I mean REALLY blue! Wherever you buy it from do NOT order it through McMurray, as they charge $15 for the 5 oz bottle, when you can get it from one of the sites I've listed below for you for about $5.25

and even cheaper here (just $4.75 per 5 oz bottle!):

Here's some info on the product. Sorry, its from a chinchilla site, but it tells you all about it. (Chinchillas are known for getting ringworm, which is one of the many things Blu-Kote is used to treat...)

Blu Kote works great and I've used it alot with our breeders. The only bad thing with Blu Kote is that it is really blue, very BLUE, so if used the chins will be a blue-violet for a while. Do not use on white chins! They will STAIN almost perminantly! Also, it is hard to get off of clothing and skin...

And from McMurrays description:

Blu-Kote is a quick-drying, protective wound dressing to treat ringworm, skin abrasions and surface wounds. Covers the wound with a deep, penetrating coating to promote clean, rapid healing. Works well for birds who have been pecked. It has an unpleasant taste to help stop cannibalism.

Its a pain for it to come off. All you can do is wait it out. I think there was someone on one of the old BYC whos child dumped a bottle of it on himself by accident. Poor kid!

I plan on getting a spray can of it, so it's cleaner to apply. Can I assume this stuff does dry? I really don't want blue all over eggs and nest boxes.

Does the blue color really stop the other chickens?

Blue Kote is a Live saver!! I have had it for my horses, and now use it on my Birds. It is very blue, and even if you use the pray can, wear gloves! it will get all over your hands, and stay on! But it works great. I have used it on my birds that have had injuries, and it covers tem up, so the other birds dont peck at them. it is easy to purchase at any farm store, and is pretty cheap. but last a long time.
