I was wandering the yard yesterday and noticed my flock of 11 hens were chasing each other around; one had caught something tasty and the others wanted it. Turns out it was a 6 inch long snake, and was apparently a great prize. I saw another hen with one who sucked it right down (gross) and seemed to enjoy it immensely. They must have found a nest somewhere.

My chickens love catching and eating those little snakes too! I worry a little about them digesting since they seem to suck it all down at once - like one long piece of spaghetti, but no problems so far.

ok, really weird question. What happens if the snake isn't dead when they slurp them down? Is that possible?

I haven't seen my girls slurp down a snake but I have seen them come across a nest of mice babies and just went to town with their nice little treats

Just making sure I understand correctly...
It's okay that my Bard Rock ate a baby gardner Snake. At first I thought it was a large worm... nope it was a snake.
