i know this has been beaten to death but black head questions

I read so much conflicting info on blackhead it makes my head hurt. I have chickens and turkeys in the same barn. they were all hatched this year no one in no one out. turkeys are about 3 months now? every things been fine, and I've been keeping an eye out for yellow poop, none till yesterday, and suddenly yesterday the 2 hens look pale and drawn in the head. Everyone else looks fine. everyone is still eating and drinking. will the whole flock have it now? when they get it are they automatic gonners, or is there something i can do to help them along?

Have you separated the 2 hens? I understand how all of the info about black head confusing you. My head hurts right along with yours. I have my turkeys and chickens together and I have never had a problem with blackhead, so I don't know enough about it to give you some info about it. Maybe someone with more experience with black head will come along and help you. I won't even try to post other links about black head because it will confuse you even more.
 
If it's blackhead, you can save them by treating right away with this drug:

The problem is going to be finding it fast enough. I used to be able to buy it OTC at the local pet stores in the fish section, but none of them seem to carry it anymore. I've only found it online, and it takes at least 2-3-4 days to get it, and this is the weekend of course.

You might ask family and friends if anyone has ever had the human version, Flagyl, and has some still sitting around in the medicine cabinet. Its used pretty commonly to treat yeast infections for women.

I can't find a link to order either without a prescription .. just found yellow poo. My turkey poults are 6 weeks and they are in with some juvie chicks and my peafowl while they're getting to know their new hen. I just wormed them last week so, hopefully, I don't have to worry about them

Yellow poop does not always mean black head desease. What it can mean, is the turkey has not been eating. Stavation mode in turkeys is the same as it is in babies that have yellow or green poop.

i happen to have some metronidazole on hand from keeping frogs. its an iv bag, how much do i give to a turkey?

I have no idea what else other then black head it could be, the one is very light and not moving much, the other is still walking around, but couldn't truly keep up. they both have sunken pale heads. and sulfer yellow poop.

Is there a turkey wonder food? something that even a turkey that isn't interested in eating will eat? mine have never really cared fro bread.

ANy help is appreciated. I have no idea on the dosing thanks!

Blackhead--it's all about location, location, location. SOme places have it some don't; contact you state ag dept and find out.THey are there to help.

You might try to diagnose this further: google turkey diseases and you will find good sites with disease names and descriptions; is it black head or is it something else entirely . . . . a good diagnoses will lead you to the effective treatment. GL

Take your sick turkey to a state lab to find out what is wrong. Then decide if you need to cull. Treating the symptoms does not end deseases like MG. The bird will always be a carrier. Many very serious disease have simular symptoms. Two months ago we had a case of Exotic Newcastle in Mexico, a hour from me. My birds were tested two weeks ago from CDC. So far no problem.

When people treat the symptoms of unknown disease, they risk spreading disease to everyone. Even shipped eggs from birds that had MG will be spread to the flock. Maybe thats how you got it??

Yes, Thanks Steve, My point was you cant just guess based on poop color.
