I took a bad egg out on lockdown. Cracked it open & it is ALIVE.*PICS*

I candled last night on lockdown one of the eggs was DEFINITELY bad. Half the size of the others and with red splodges. so I put it aside and took it out early this morning. It's 1:30 pm now and I decided to crack open two of the bad eggs. One that died early on and this one. So I crack the other one open and it's tiny and dead. I crack this one and it moved. I didn't crack it right open, only about 2 centimeters around in the aircell.
It's been a pretty hot today.

I put a few drops of water in the egg, wraped a wet paper towl around it and put it in the incubator.
I feel so bad. I was so tired last night when I candled that I must have made a mistake and separated the wrong one.


What are it's chances? Do you reckon it will live?

I did the same with a turkey egg a week before hatch, but broke the whole egg open. It was horrible. I didn't know about the float test till the next morning. I held it in my palm while it died.

Is there anything I can do to help? Would getting a bit of shell from an eating egg and putting it over the hole work? Should I keep dripping water onto the membrane?
 
I wouldn't keep dripping water in the hole, you can seal up the hole by getting another egg, on that you don't need, crack the shell and try to match up the hole, take some candle wax and put it all over the shell to seal it. Candle waxed works wonderfully, when you cracked it it did it at anytime bleed??
 
There was no blood.
Heres a picture of the hole. The yolk stuff is from the egg I cracked before. It was on the stick that I was using to remove the shell.

Looks like you've done everything you can to give it a chance. If there was no blood, that's good - you didn't tear any vessels. If you just picked a hole in the top of the egg at the air cell you haven't really interfered with the chick. And as it's the start of lockdown today, and you've sealed the egg back up, the humidity thing shouldn't be an issue as you've covered up the membrane and there's still a couple of days to go till you'd expect a pip, so the humidity should have evened itself out by then. The only thing I'd worry about would be whether the chick will be able to pip through the 'repair' you've done. I take it that's a piece of eggshell from another egg glued over the hole like you asked about doing? Usually a chick pips down near the edge of the aircell, which would be fine, but if this one decides to pip higher up in the shell there might be a problem. I don't know what you cna do about that though...

I'd imagine that there's a higher than normal chance that you're going to have to assist this chick to hatch, if it does make it as far as pipping, so I suppose you'll just have to keep an eye (and ear) out for any rocking, peeping or tapping from it, and be ready to help out. Good luck!
