I wasn't in a solar car, though.
Just a little while ago I was heading north on US 71 in western MO, and just north of Carthage I come up on this gaggle of vehicles with lots of flashing caution lights. I had no idea what was going on until I got around one of the chase vans and saw several solar cars! How cool is that?
There were a bunch of them! The speed limit is 70 and they were going 60-65....on solar power! I must have passed 7 or 8 of them stretched out over a 20 mile length of road. The chase/caution vehicles had all kinds of sponsor logos on them and university logos from Minnesota, Ontario, Alberta, Missouri, Kentucky, just to name a few. License plates from all over too! I almost ran off the road trying to get a look at them all.
I get home and look it up online and find out I had just driven through the North American Solar Challenge on their way from Dallas to Calgary! I guess I caught them on the Neosho to Topeka leg of the race.

Here's the Missouri team blog: http://solar42.mst.edu/
GO MISSOURI!!!
Check out their route on the first link, if you live in the middle of the US/Canada, they might be racing right by you and you can go get a glimpse! As I type this they are heading north on US 71 to Lee's Summit where they will turn west to Topeka, KS.
They have several legs of the race left, and it's supposed to end on July 22 in Calgary.
Cool Stuff!
Edited because I was in a hurry when I first typed this, and got the name of the competition wrong.
