Wow! This is my first time to incubate eggs so I really didn't expect to have any success with it, but I finally have a pip! It's only day 18/19, so I really wasn't expecting anything to happen yet and I just moved the eggs into the hatcher this morning (apparently just in time!)
I have another egg rocking and rolling and making a ton of noise, slight movements from another and nothing from the rest.

This is so exciting! Hopefully this little egg won't make me wait 24 hours to see him/her!

Thanks all-

Does anyone know the average pip to zip time? I know it could be 8-24 hrs or so between pip and complete hatch, is it the same?
At this point there is no change from my first post.
 
Well, I woke up this morning to a cute little White Crested Black Polish chick bulldozing all the other eggs in the bator!

We've since watched another chick (mixed breed freebie egg) hatch and have, I think, 2 more pipped! YAY!!!
2 down- 2 on the way- and 33 to go!
 
sorry for my question here-but what is "pipped?" I have a broody hen on 5 or6 eggs now and its about 7 days so far. Will I see anything except little chicks or rotten eggs later? I don't know what pip means. Sorry.

Pipping is when the baby chic is first starting to crack the shell. If I remember right, they start on the rounded end of the egg & break open the shell. It's so cool to watch,quite amazing.

It takes 21 days to hatch, but ya could have some early birds

Thanks-if a mama hen is sitting on them, will we get to see any of that? Does she stay on them at that point? If sh'e very grouchy now, will she be then and with her chicks after they hatch? We'd love to be able to hold them and see them if she lets us.
