I am SOO excited!!! Even though I am pretty young, I made the incubator yesterday. Now all we need is a light bulb that will keep the incubator at 100 decrees F. and we need a humidifier. Oh, and eggs too!

I am really happy and we are going to test the homemade incubator for the first time next weekend probably!

I really hope it works! I made it using other's ideas. Here's how I made it:

Materials:

Plastic box with cover

tinfoil wrap

scissors

clear tape

wire

bowl of water

light bulb

eggs

Step one: Tape tinfoil on the inside of the box to restore heat and protect box from any melting. Make sure the walls are COMPLETELY covered.

Step two: Take wire and cut a strip long enough and thin enough to fit into box. wire strip should not be too loose or too cramped when in box.

Step three: Tape sides of wire to sides of tinfoil-covered box walls. Leave one side untaped so you can fit the water bowl under the wire. Wire SHOULD NOT be touching the bottom of the box. It should be raised so there is room for a bowl underneath.

Step four: Cut another, smaller piece of wire and attach it to the wire close to the wall(leaving enough room for the light bulb to fit from the side) Make the wire curve over the space where the light bulb will come in through the wall and tape it to the top side of the box.

Step five: Take light bulb(which should have a switch on it) and drill a hole through the side of the box(the side that has the arched wire to protect a chick from the light bulb) and stick light bulb in. the light bulb should be facing inside the box, towards where the egg will sit, which is on top of the flat part of the wire.

Step six: place a small and short bowl with water inside of it into the box. Slide it under the wire. The egg will sit over the water dish on the wire when you put it in.

Step seven: Place humidifier and temp. meter inside box(make sure you can see them both without having to open the box) Turn light on and test the temp. and humidity. Make sure the humidity goes up to 85-87% and the temp. up to 100 degrees F. Keep decrees at 100 degrees F. The water bowl should help with raising humidity.

Step eight: Once everything is done and set, place a fertile egg inside incubator. Keep temp. and humid steady, until the last day of hatching, which is when you raise humidity to 90%. Temp. can not raise higher than 105 decrees F. or the egg will die. and it can't go below 90 decrees F.

LAST STEP: Wait 21 days and you will hopefully have a hatched egg!!

This is a link to a website that shows how to make a similar incubator:

Mine is similar, but not in a cooler.

DO YOU THINK THIS WILL WORK??? Thanks!!!

I think that it has a pretty good chance of working. Anyone else??

I hope so! If it doesn't then we will make a better one with a cooler. If it does, then we will make another anyway with a cooler. We are just testing it with one or two eggs

The incubator in your link is mine.

That's my blog.

You will need to keep your incubator in a room with extremely stable temps as it is not very insulated - maybe even nest it in a blanket to help control the temps. You need airflow vents, too.

You may find your temps swinging alot. Watch them carefully.

i know i know!

I don't have any pics because i don't know how to do that.

But that's why I posted the website, which shows pics of one that someone else made, similar to mine.
