I decided to buy the surefire 6p flashlight. I have to give you a big Thank You. That is the Best flashlight I ever spent money on. I ordered the led upgrade but its on back order for a couple weeks. But even without the upgrade I was amazed at the light output it has. Again Thanks for the infomation on it.

Hey, no problem. I love the flashlight! It was a gift from Royicus. He's the one who introduced me to the world of lumens. He has tons of flashlights... makes chickens seem cheap! I would also recommend making it rechargeable if you use it a lot since it will eat though those lithium batteries when you are gleefully watching your babies moving in the eggs.

Royicus actually picked up a set of after makret rechargeables for us. I don't remember where but I am sure they will cost less than the one on the surfire website. I can ask him when he gets home today.

Ok thanks that would be great the ones on surefire are pricey.

I am indeed the flashaholic that configured silkiechicken's flashlight. That said, I can point you to where you can acquire the parts.

First though, I recommend you cancel that Surefire LED order. I mean, it will be nice and bright, but it is also expensive and adds bulk to the flashlight.

I recommend the following...

For an LED, just grab this

There are cheaper ones out there, but the fit and finish of this LED is great. Light output is about the same as the incandescent, if not a little brighter. However, you gain twice the runtime. This LED can be run on both the Lithium batteries as well as the battery upgrade below.

You'll need at least two of those. I got four so that if two die, I just swap in two fresh ones and place the depleted pair on the charger. They will replace the non-rechargeable batteries that came with the flashlight. They should last for hundreds of charges. Note, do NOT use the stock Surefire P60 bulb with these batteries, or you will instantly blow that lamp. I repeat, using these rechargeable batteries with the stock lamp will instantly destroy it. Only use it with the LED assembly.


Lastly, you need a charger to charge those batteries.

That should do the trick. Just make sure to set the switch to 3.6V before plugging the charger into the wall.


All that will give you a rechargeable LED based flashlight that will candle eggs for years to come. Silkiechicken actually uses a cheaper LED lamp that I ordered from China for $12.50 including shipping. We got two, one for me, one for her. Unfortunately, one of them broke. But I feel that I should at least inform you that there are cheap LED lamps out there that do put out the same amount of light. For fairness, I'll link one below for you.

I've not tried that exact lamp. I can't say if it fits properly nor not, but it says that it does. They constantly revise these things (manufacturing in China is cheap), so they can change without notice, usually for the better.

Over the long run, the upgrades should pay for themselves in battery savings and not having to get a replacement lamp due to a blown bulb. But in the end, you'll just have a really cool flashlight!

The picture below shows two of the rechargeable batteries in the background, and in the front, working left to right, is the Wolf Eyes LED, Cheap Chinese LED (works fine, light output equivalent to the one on the left), and finally the stock Surefire P60 lamp.

Thanks I think I'm going to like the rechargeable batteries.

Do they make it in a 5w led? or is it only in 3w? I'm thinking about getting one for my hubby too.

Royicus here. The LED is reknown to have great light output with lower power consumption then standard LEDs, like you see on the Surefire website. I wouldn't be too concerned over the 3W vs 5W when working with Cree LEDs. Yes they are out there, but I haven't seen any made for a flashlight the size of the 6P. They are usually made for bigger flashlights that have larger batteries to keep the runtime up.

I think you will be satisfied with the 3W Cree LED.

Ok thanks I wasn't sure but I just ordered the batteries and the charger and then I'm going to try the cheapo one for $10 to see how it goes. If not I'll get the $50 one. Thanks you have been a great help.
