Hey there. Just when I thought things were getting better, now the bottom of my chick's feet look horrible and painful. I feel bad for her. We have tried so hard to make her well and it would be so sad if she died or something happened now. I don't know what else to do.

As you can see from this picture, there has been great improvement between the toes:

But now both of her feet look awful, painful and cracked on the bottom:

My neighbor told me that once a chick has had this many issues, that normally they will die or end up diseased. I hope this is not true.

I was considering putting Lanolin Cream on her feet, does anyone have opinions about this? It's a cream used for nursing mother's (human mothers) when they have dried or cracked sore skin from nursing. It contains: 100% Lansinoh Brand Lanolin - World's Purest Lanolin, ultra pure, medical grade. USP modified Lanolin.

Looking forward to any advice you can give.
Thanks.

Aw that poor little thing! I would go ahead and try it and see if you can bandage the feet after applying it. Also, you may want to post those pics in the emergencies section.

That Lansinoh is great. It really helps with cracked/chapped skin. I would guess it would help with a chick too Does she need an antibiotic thou? Just to help with any possible infection.
Poor thing, I am sorry you are having to go through this. I am sure it is painful for both you and her.
Also what about taking her off the pine shavings and using paper towels? Only because I am wondering if the pine shavings would irritate it with it sharp edges on such raw skin.

I have provided some paper towel for her if she desires....not sure she is smart enough to sit on them. LOL.

I do feel bad. I started applying the lanolin cream. I hope this helps.

J.

PS No one has ever seen this, EVER?

Hi, I'm a new member and just thought that I would throw in my two cents. I buy a product that is meant for horses call teapro, it's in the horse medicine section of my local feed store. (contains tea tree oil) I've never used it on chickens, but I find that it heals wounds that don't want to heal on dogs, goats, and even myself. If I didn't have it then my dog probably wouldn't have any hide on her since she's always losing chunks out of her hide while trying to get herself in trouble. (hyperactive dachshund.)

It's kinda spendy, about $15 for a spray bottle, but it last forever.
